Janice brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her work with administrators, and middle and elementary grade teachers.
With knowledge of all aspects of teaching reading and writing from the perspectives of a teacher, a staff developer and an administrator, Janice is a dedicated education professional with proven ability to initiate, lead, create and monitor practices and policies that promote safe learning environments; assist in creating cultures that encourage continuous improvement for teachers and students; develop an environment that encourages open communication with colleagues, students and the community; create a shared commitment to excellence amongst students, staff and the school community; and mentor educators in their creation and implementation of class instruction, lesson plans, and student assessment in conjunction with state learning standards and regulations.
In her work as a principal, Janice led her building to receive the 2004 "Exemplary Reading Program" award from the International Reading Association; collaboratively led mapping of instructional reading strategies for grades K-5; co-facilitated intermediate grade district literacy mapping; incorporated a professional goal setting model into professional evaluation; facilitated implementation of a comprehensive literacy program and administration of common assessments such as developmental reading assessments, reading assessment inventories, teacher developed rubrics, and teacher developed assessments; engaged in SACI (School Alliance for Continuous Improvement) reviews – both as a trained consultant and as a district participant; and analyzed data to target and improve instruction and curriculum.
Janice's rare blend of classroom, supervisory and administrative experience allows her to know exactly what is preoccuying all the constituencies in a school, and how best to create a productive learning environment for all of them.
